How to Identify Natural Disasters
Natural disasters cause untold harm, not to mention great financial loss. There are so many of them, which might make one wonder how best they can prepare for them. You may read more here on what to do in each.
Tornadoes originate from powerful thunderstorms. You will know it is the one when you see a rotating funnel-shaped cloud. They will move from the thunderstorm to the ground, bringing with them lightning strikes, flash floods, and strong winds. They will not give you ample time to prepare, seeing as they strike without warning.
Tropical storms are mostly based in the eastern Pacific Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Southern Atlantic Ocean. Hurricanes, on the other hand, tend to strike along the Gulf of Mexico.
When there is an excessive and dangerous amount of water on dry land, you will be witnessing a flood. Other natural disasters such as hurricanes tend to cause flooding. Other causes are like when dams break. Flash floods are commonly caused by excess rainfall. Coastal regions are susceptible to such floods. But other places can never rule out the chance of a flood occurring there. They are capable of sweeping away bridges, cars, people, and houses.
There are also wildfires, brought about by accidents or lightning. These will spread over an area so fast people tend not to know what to do. They cause the most damage in rural areas, forests, and woodlands.
There are also earthquakes, which happen when the earth’s plates are shifted, leading to the ground shaking. Some of them can stay on for a few seconds, to others taking minutes. This is usually very violent and will not give prior warning. You will also have to brace for the aftershocks for some time to come, months even.
Droughts are more regular and vary in intensity and duration. A drought is a condition where a drop in the precipitation levels remains prevalent over a long period of time. They tend to delay the rainy seasons. You will have a hard time living with minimal or no water, and risk seeing other disasters like wildfires.
There are also power outages. You can attribute them to lightning, human error, and malfunctions in the systems. They can cause damage to property, and leave you unsafe. When it gets cold, you will find that living without air conditioning is hard.
There is also extreme heat, which can turn an otherwise great season into one filled with pain and anguish. If the weather is too hot for five straight days, there will be a lot of negative health effects among the population. Heat stroke and respiratory complications become common.
There shall be even more natural disasters, such as cyclones, winter weather, volcanic eruptions, and others. If you were to learn more about them, you would survive them much better. You may discover more tips on survival on this website.
